CED 7462: Couples, Marriage, & Family Therapy: Home

Course Description

2 hours. Prerequisite for CED7843. This course an introductory course for Marriage and Family Therapy Curriculum, the second course in the MFT certificate program. This course covers foundations of systemic and relational practice, theory, and technique, as well as systemic/relational assessment in MFT in mental health issues, and unique ethical and identity issues of the MFT. This course discusses the development, models, and theories of marriage, couple, and family counseling, case conceptualization from a systemic perspective, settings for MFTs, the structure of the family, assessment of the family unit, and conceptualizing and treating the family unit. Students study the foundational theoretical approaches relying heavily on systemic thinking and communication theory. This course assists MFT students in developing foundational aspects of systems theory necessary to assess, plan, and intervene systemically with a family.
