3 hours. This course is a survey of church history from the late Middle Ages to the present day. The focus will encompass both the historical and doctrinal developments of Christianity. Special attention will be paid to trinitarian doctrine and missionary efforts in the course of historical developments. The church’s monumental leaders and thinkers will be examined through both secondary and primary sources, from Renaissance thinkers to contemporary theologians. Students will be encouraged to think both critically and generously about the varied legacies of the Christian tradition.
