3 Credit Hours. Lifestyle and Career Development includes an examination of various factors influencing career choice and career development over the lifespan, including individual, cultural and sociological factors. Emphasis is placed on approaches that aid conceptualization of healthy development in career planning and decision making. Counseling strategies to address career struggles, including interrelationships between work, family and life roles are addressed. Also included is the use of career information systems, computer-based information systems; and vocational assessment instruments. The counselor’s role as an advocate for the profession also is addressed. At the discretion of the professor, students may be required to pay a nominal fee for individual vocational assessments. This course is a part of the Richmont Career Mapping sequence.
