Library Orientation: Grammarly and APA 7 Style Help

Grammarly and Writing Assistance

All Richmont students have access to Grammarly Premium through the Richmont Libraries. Grammarly is a wonderful tool for improving your written work by pointing out silly spelling and grammatical errors and providing suggestions for improving your written work. Grammarly should not be viewed as a replacement for careful editing and rigorous proofreading, but it does help you avoid making them in the first place. It also can offer helpful feedback on writing style, helping to improve the clarity and elegance of your written work.

Grammarly may be downloaded for use in both browser and desktop programs, so it's a great way to ensure that everything from your research papers to your Canvas posts to your emails are professional, concise, and error-free. We strongly suggest that you take advantage of this excellent free tool. If you'd like to activate your free Grammarly account, simply send us an email at libraries@richmont.edu and we will get you set up with access.

In order to be an effective scholar in your chosen field of study, you will need to familiarize yourself with the professional standards for writing in your discipline. While they may seem boring or finicky, by conforming to these standards, you show yourself to be an aware and responsible member of your discipline and ready to enter the academic conversation with rigor and insight. Generally speaking, students in the School of Counseling are to conform to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th ed.), while students in the School of Ministry will use the Chicago Manual of Style (Turabian) as their reference.

In addition to one-on-one writing center services, the Richmont Libraries are here to answer any questions you might have about APA 7 or Turabian style and formatting. On this page, you will find links to various resources, both internal and external, as well as video demonstrations and example papers, all of which are useful for conforming to the relevant style guide. Should you have any questions on a point of style, do not hesitate to contact us at libraries@richmont.edu.
