While we work very hard to build a collection of the best current books and databases in Richmont's principal areas of study, the Richmont Libraries can't acquire everything. Through interlibrary loan, the Richmont Libraries are able to provide students and faculty with access to a far larger number of resources than those available in just our local collections and databases.
Through interlibrary loan services, you may request:
Loaned resources may be provided as either physical or electronic copies.
Turn-Around Time:
Each year, library staff fill nearly a thousand requests for outside resources for our Richmont community, and we pride ourselves on the speed and efficiency with which we are able to respond to requests. Normally, we are able to respond to requests within two business days, though it may take longer in the case of physical resources, like books or dissertations. That said, we are dependent on lending institutions to receive resources, so please allow for adequate time, up to 2 weeks, to receive your materials, although typically we are able to fulfill requests in a much shorter time-frame.
As a service to our students, the Richmont Libraries pay for all interlibrary loan costs from the library budget. The Richmont Libraries will never charge Richmont students or faculty for shipping, copying, or other fees incurred by interlibrary loan services. Richmont faculty and students may use the interlibrary loan request form to request any resource, or send us an email at libraries@richmont.edu
Care and Safe Return of Loaned Resources
To provide interlibrary loan services, Richmont relies on the openness, generosity, and above all, trust of lending institutions. It is imperative that we not abuse that generosity and trust by losing or damaging materials borrowed from other institutions. Thus, students and faculty of Richmont are expected to return all resources acquired through interlibrary loan undamaged at or before the listed due-date.
Students and faculty may be required to pay for any lost or damaged resources for the replacement price fixed by the lending institution.
Copyright Restrictions:
All students and faculty of Richmont Graduate University are expected to abide by the relevant copyright restrictions pertaining to materials obtained through interlibrary loan, and the Richmont Libraries reserve the right to refuse any interlibrary loan request violating copyright law. The following statement, provided by EBSCO, summarizes these restrictions:
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyright material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research”. If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use”, that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse a copying order if, in its judgement, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
How to request items in GALILEO through interlibrary Loan.
GALILEO indexes millions of books and articles that are not available immediately to read. GALILEO provides information about these resources--including subject tags, references, abstracts, authors, and publication information--but not the full text of the resource itself.
1) First, execute a search in GALILEO or in the EBSCO database of your choice. Indexed resources appear in GALILEO and EBSCO search results page with the option to "Request this item through interlibrary loan." Before requesting an item, it's always a good idea to read some of the information about it--including the abstract and subject tags--just to confirm that this article will be useful.
2) To request indexed items through interlibrary loan, simply select this option, and GALILEO will generate a form which automatically populates many of the fields, including article title, journal title, author, date, volume, and digital object identifier.
3) Most of the information about the item you're requesting will populate automatically. However, you still need to provide your full name, email address, Richmont status and campus, and agree to adhere to copyright restrictions. This will allow us to fulfill your request in a prompt manner.
4) After filling out your personal contact information, simply submit the form. This will send the completed form to libraries@richmont.edu, and one of the library staff will get back to you about your request in a timely manner. We try to fulfill all requests within a few business days, although some requests might take much longer.
Richmont faculty and students may use the interlibrary loan request form to request any resource, or simply send us an email at libraries@richmont.edu, and we will respond to your request as soon as possible. This is the best method to use to request any item not indexed in GALILEO.
In addition, if there is a book or other resource that you think we should add to our permanent collection, do not hesitate to let us know by email, or by filling out the New Resource Suggestions form. We are always thrilled to receive suggestions from any student or faculty member on books we should add to the collection.
